Frequently Asked Questions

What vocal techniques do you teach?

I teach a variety of vocal techniques tailored to your goals and style, including breath control, pitch accuracy, vocal tone, range expansion, and performance skills. Whether you want to master rock, pop, metal, or country singing, we focus on building a strong, healthy voice that lasts. I specialise in rock vocals, with a focus on grit and vocal fry, power, and belting, all taught in a safe, sustainable way that protects your voice.

Do I need any prior singing experience to start lessons?

No formal experience needed, but you should feel ready to try. Even if you’ve only ever sung at home, that’s a great place to start. I’ll help you build confidence safely and gradually, as long as you’re willing to give it a go and use your voice in lesson

How long does it take to see improvement in singing?

Practice makes progress, especially when breathing technique is done properly. Most students notice real improvements within 6 weeks if they’re practicing regularly and attending weekly lessons. Everyone’s voice grows at a different pace, but consistency is what gets results.

WHAT AGES DO YOU TEACH?

I work with singers of all ages, from children just starting to find their voice to adults rediscovering their love for music. For younger students, my focus is on building confidence, creativity, and self-expression through music. I believe it’s so important for kids to explore all kinds of genres, from pop to rock to musicals, so they can discover what excites and inspires them. Every child’s voice is unique, and my goal is to help them feel proud of it while having fun and growing their skills.

For adults, lessons are tailored to your personal goals, whether that’s improving technique, preparing for performances, or simply enjoying the freedom of singing.

What genres of music do you specialise in?

I primarily focus on rock, metal, pop, and country vocal coaching, but I’m always happy to help you explore any style you love. I specialise in rock vocals and vocal fry techniques, taught in a safe, healthy way that protects your voice.

My lessons include performance techniques and microphone skills to help you sound your best on stage or in the studio.

Can I learn to sing better as an adult?

Absolutely! Singing is a skill that can be developed at any age. Many adult learners find vocal coaching incredibly rewarding, and I specialise in helping beginners and experienced singers unlock their full vocal potential.

I’m not very confident, will I be comfortable in a lesson?

Absolutely. Confidence is something we build together. Every lesson is relaxed, supportive, and tailored to your pace. You’ll never be asked to do anything you’re not ready for, we’ll start small, celebrate every win, and make sure you always feel comfortable and in control. My goal is to make each session a safe space where you can be yourself, take risks, and enjoy discovering what your voice can do.

Where are your lessons based?

All lessons take place at The Palladium Club in Bideford, North Devon’s only dedicated grassroots music venue. It’s a space full of creative energy, the perfect place to learn, grow, and get inspired. I also offer online session if you would rather sing from the comfort of your own home.

Are you insured and dbs checked?

Absolutely. I am a registered member of the Musicians’ Union, which includes full Public Liability Insurance for my teaching and performance work. I also hold an enhanced DBS check for working with young people and vulnerable adults.
